Makita G2800L 2 800 Watt 6 HP Portable Power Generator

The Makita 2,800-Watt 6 HP portable power generator has a 169cc overhead cam EX series engine that’s chain-driven for superior performance and includes fewer moving parts for greater reliability. The 3.7-gallon capacity of the metal fuel tank enables up to 9.7 hours of runtime, and the commercial-duty electrical components have common NEMA receptacles for durability. Well-designed engine and frame mounts produce less vibration, while the reduced 68-decibel sound output creates a quieter environment. A recoil starter system with electronic ignition delivers easy, reliable starts, while the timing chain carries oil throughout the generator for full lubrication. This generator comes with a built-in oil sensor to shut off the ignition when dangerously low oil levels occur and large, high-capacity air and fuel filters that reduced service intervals. Makita backs its generator with a 1-year limited warranty.

5 Stars Best Little Generator I Have Seen (In a class of its own)
As always, DeWalt exceeded my expectations. This gem arrived in perfect condition. Once I had completed assembly and added oil and fuel, I gave a very light tug on the rope to get a feel for how much resistance it would offer. It started! Have only had it a few weeks, but it works just as advertised. The automatic idle is a very nice feature which really keeps noise down when there is no load. Note – be sure to follow instructions, since the generator is shipped without oil. If you like to jump ahead, do not put in fuel or oil before assembling wheels and lifting hook.

5 Stars High Quality Generator.
This Dewalt generator is ,without question, one of the nicest on the market. It’s level of design, preformance and finish is the best available today. I have used many generators, from various manufactures and I would say that this Dewant unit compares with the super-duty,heavy construction, units I’ve used. You can’t go wrong.

5 Stars Top quality generator
I have just recently received this generator from Amazon. It is without a doubt the best quality generator I have ever had. I have had a lot of generators since I live on the Mississippi gulf coast and have had to survive the aftermath of all of the hurricanes that have devestated our area, including Hurricanes Camille,Frederic,Eleana,George and Katrina. I wanted a generator that would be dependable yet economical, since gasoline is at a premium after a hurricane. This generator starts easily and runs quietly.I would recommend this generator to anyone in search of a top quality generator at a reasonable price.Buy it from Amazon you can’t go wrong.

4 Stars Great for the money!
I bought this planning to use it camping and for emergency (power outage) use at home. It ran my large (25 cubic foot) side by side refrigerator and a bunch of other stuff (lights, tv, computer, chargers)at the same time. It runs my camper’s AC, refrigerator, and other equipment with no problem as well. Fuel consumption was surprisingly low.

I expected it to be pretty crude for the price, but it starts easily, runs smoothly and fairly quietly, and looks good. I will be very careful to change oil frequently, and I plan to upgrade to Mobil 1 synthetic after the break-in period. I’ll also be careful to stabilize the fuel and drain it for storage, as failure to do that is often the death knell for power equipment.

It was amazing that my Amazon Prime membership included free 2-day shipping on this.

5 Stars Delivery Review
I want to provide a quick initial review of this product that I will update when I get a chance to use this product.

Ordered on a Monday. Shipped on Tuesday and delivered on Thursday with free standard shipping. It was shipped from the Midwest. The generator was in it’s box that was then placed in another cardboard box with 1″ thick Styrofoam sandwiched between. The outer box was showing some wear, could have been taped better and the foam on top was not as well placed as the foam on the bottom and sides. I can see where just a bit more rough shipping treatment could have caused some issues. This item is very heavy and once a compromise is made to the packaging it would go downhill fast, I imagine. Fortunately everything arrived undamaged. The unit was as close to perfect as I would expect anything to be at this price. The engine and generator components seem very well made. While the front panel and frame are a bit cheap looking, they are sturdy and everything was well assembled.

Next was starting this thing up. I now see how difficult it is to fill with oil. To make it easy I used a small short funnel and tipped the unit to its side with a 1.5″ block under the feet. I filled to just at the full mark. Oh, why did I do that!!! Once I tipped the unit back down flat, oil ran out and I guess I had about 4-6 ounces too much between what spilled and what I had to pour out to get it just below the fill mark again. That’s when I remember reading somewhere to keep the unit level when filling with oil! Next time I need to measure carefully how much oil it needs and just put in that much. I didn’t see it stated anywhere in the manual.

Once I cleaned up the oil, I poured in some gas, opened the fuel valve, switched it on and attempted to start it. While the fuel valve has nice clear ON/OFF labels. The choke has a stupid graphic that points in one direction. Does that mean on or off? Start or run? Anyway, there seems to be 3 positions to the choke. Start is one of full left or right, the middle is warm-up and the remaining position is the run position. I did two pulls at the wrong position, moved the choke full opposite and the unit started right up at a very slow chug. I was able to move to warm-up or run right away though it was a warm day. It was about as loud as a quiet gas mower. My wife could hear it inside the house 60ft away through an exterior door. At least you will be able to hear when someone turns it off to steal it.

My only real negative thought is I didn’t realize how heavy a 90+ pound generator would be. I didn’t plan to lift it much and lifting is not too bad, but taking steps while it’s lifted is difficult. You can’t lift it to your chest or shoulder like a 94lb bag of cement or my 100+ pound wife, that I was mentally comparing it to before purchase. I have a moving dolly and a yard cart I will be moving it around with.

I’m going to get a grounding rod before I test the electrical output . I will update this then. So far this is much better than I expected after reading the horror stories here. I image a much higher percentage of problems are reviewed than successes so I wanted to make sure this good deal gets some deserved good feedback. For my use the next level I thought worthwhile was a $1200 Yamaha 2400 watt inverter generator. I’m hoping saving some noise and 30 pounds of weight is not worth $900. Worth the experiment!

4 Stars So far so good
Just recieved it today. Put in oil and gas. Have to admit that I agree with other reviews about the confusing choke graphic and I did the same thing by placing in wrong position. Once that was figured out, unit started right up. Let it run for a few minutes and then hooked up to trailer. Powered everything well. Unit is suprisingly quiet for what I thought it would be. So far so good…..

5 Stars Great Product So Far
My generator arrived in great condition. Minimal damage to outside box, No damage to inside box or generator. Added oil and gas,and it started on the third pull. Seems to supply plenty of power for my camper’s A/C and microwave at the same time.

1 Star never started
